We photographed this session at home, alone, during the Covid lockdown. These were still some of Kirigami’s earliest photographic experiments: we were working with an old camera that had been given to us, discovering its possibilities and limitations while shaping the light, framing and rhythm of the sequence.
Kata ashi becomes the thread running through the shoot. The position begins with one foot on the floor, emphasizing the asymmetric opening of the legs; the ropes then lift Marta Tenshiko progressively, turning controlled balance into a more intense suspension. Close portraits and deep shadows convey concentration, strain and surrender.
